Hi! I’m Raquel, founder and registered Fertility Nutrition Practitioner at Nurturing You Nutrition. I achieved my BSc (Hons) Health Sciences: Nutritional Therapy, by the University of Westminster in 2008. This is a highly acclaimed Nutritional Therapy Honours Degree, with a strong science based approach to clinical practice; and the embracement to the Functional Medicine principles.
My passion has always been around the area of women’s health. Having had a “strange relationship” with food and a lack of understanding of the importance of a healthy way of eating or what a healthy way of eating actually looked like in the past, health issues started to come up in my 20s. I struggled with PCOS for years and finally having seen my symptoms reverse through changing my eating habits together with the help of an amazing herbal medicine practitioner made me want to help people take control of their own health through nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Since starting my own fertility journey at age 37 and having taken for granted the male side of things, we soon realised how equally important it is for the male partner to commit to a healthy lifestyle in preparation for conception for a quicker and healthy pregnancy and baby. After what felt like the longest two years, and almost at the point of embarking on the IVF route, we had our daughter, at nearly age 39. This experience made me want to specialise in fertility nutrition to help couples understand and implement the necessary changes to maximise their chances of a healthy pregnancy and baby.
My job as a Fertility Nutritional Therapist involves putting my “detective hat” on and always asking “why” in order to get to the root cause of your specific case through the use and interpretation of an array of tools including your medical history, lifestyle and nutritional assessment, and conventional testing through your GP or appropriate private Functional testing when needed. This helps me in tailoring an individualised and targeted nutrition and lifestyle plan specific to your unique needs and circumstances by addressing the root of the problem rather than just the symptoms.
I am a highly empathic person with an approachable and caring personality. I love baking, trying different cuisines, languages, travelling, yoga, walking in nature whilst listening to meditations, paddle boarding, being part of a sound healing group, and most of all raising my daughter.
I look forward to getting to know you and your story and working with you to help you maximise your chances of achieving the fertility goals that you desire and are committed to achieve.
