🥁 When our practitioner says adding protein to 🥁 When our practitioner says adding protein to soup is a good idea, we listen.

The team here at The Fertility Nutrition Centre will all declare the merits of including adequate amounts of protein in a fertility diet.

And a bowl of soup - delicious, convenient, and warming as it may be - tends to lack in this department.

So, when @nenutrition shares her soup with kofta meat balls, she has our attention.

Not only does adding a source of protein make soups more filling, but it also adds a fertility-nourishing boost to every bowl.

Protein is crucial for hormone balance, egg health, and pregnancy support—plus, it helps keep those mid-afternoon snack cravings at bay.

This bowl of homemade pea soup is topped with a dollop of creamy cottage cheese and crunchy roasted chickpeas—a simple and delicious way to up the protein game.

Here are some of Natasha’s favourite ways to add extra protein to your soups:
🥣 Mini meatballs or kofta
🧀 Cheese blended in or as a topping
🌱 Beans—whole or blended
🍗 Shredded chicken or duck
🥛 Silken tofu, bone broth, or live yoghurt

Or, try cottage cheese and chickpeas, just as we've done here.

Who’s ready to try these tips for a fertility-friendly protein boost in a bowl of soup?

Part 3 - Ultra processed Foods - let’s take a cl Part 3 - Ultra processed Foods - let’s take a closer look.

Bread
🍞It’s important to buy bread with the least amount of ingredients you recognise. For example - flour, water, and salt. Try to avoid bread and bread products containing rapeseed or palm oil.

🍞UK regulations around bread production require that certain nutrients are added to milled white and brown non-wholemeal wheat flour. Therefore, you can expect to see calcium, niacin (B3), thiamine (B1), and iron as standard.

So, what’s the deal with rapeseed and palm oil - they’re everywhere?

These two heavily refined oils are regularly found in ultra processed foods. The problem with these oils is that through their heavy refinement processing they’re stripped of any goodness and can become very harmful in their formation, making them inflammatory, which isn't good for health and fertility.

🫒Opt for foods containing olive oil or avocado oil where possible.

Overall, if you’re eating a mostly whole-foods diet you are going to be avoiding these nasties anyway, so rather than mastering the art of ingredient tracking (which let’s face it, isn’t much fun), stick to less packets and you’ll be doing yourself and your fertility the world of good.
